Does thundering affect Computers?

Actually, it the Lightening. Computers and Lightening not best of friends. Sound travels @ 1,200 feet per second. When you see Lightening flash, count the seconds until you hear the Thunder, this give you an idea how close it is.

I not trust surge protectors. It easy to shut down/unplug and wait a few minutes until it pass.

Lightening does Thunder does not confirming the age-old observation tha there is nothingt to fear from those who make a lot of noise but guard against those who strke suddenly but silently.The lightening need not necessarily fall on the computer. The charge that the atmosphere receives is more than enough. Do not depend on the modern gadgets. Go in fear of the weapon of god Zeus as our forefather rightly did.

If the power goes out during a storm is can cause severe damage to your computer, especially the internet connection. You can also loose alot of files even if they are saved. Although most newer computers have some sort of back up system,or auto protection against power outages.

Also if you have a wireless router that can be damaged in a storm too!

Thunder does not harm the computer, But LIGHTNING DOES. On the news the other day they said you really need to unplug computers during a storm with lightning.

Lightening could travel through Tel wires ,electric cables, be wise if the thundering and lightening are too close shut the Computer .no surge protector power strip could help once the lightening strikes.

i think you should close the computer when it is thundering beacuse we are running the computer because of current,and when it thunders the lights starts fluctuating and its not good to use the computer at that time.

Well the thunder is just the noise...the lightning is what will fry your computer.

You can get a power strip that will protect against powre surges.

If your computer is connected thru a socket and the wire outside which connects to your home is hit with lightning surely your puter will die, why your puter it can even affect your TV set, music system and microwave

Lightning does.. And whenever its thundering it is always lightning..so you should shut your computer down immediately so it doesn't get damaged by electrical shock.
