Why does my PS2 play certain games?

My PS2 only plays certain games. It won't play my new Devil May Cry 3 or God of War. But it will play Spartan: Total Warrior and my PS1 games. I have cleaned all the games and even cleaned the system with a lens cleaner but still will play only certain games. If it needs to be repaired, what can I do? Bought it 3 years ago refurbished.

I have the same problem with my PS2. Unfortunately, Sony disc readers get worn out very, very quickly. As far as I know, you can either buy a new PS2, or just keep ejecting and re-inserting the disc until it works. Every now and then, a can of compressed air will do the trick too, but that could just make it worse. Also, try cleaning the discs with a t-shirt (not a really soft one, just a normal t-shirt). Good luck, both of the games you mention are great!

If you bought it 3 years ago and it was refubished, that means it is the older version of the PS2. They wont play purple backed games. The new PS2 will play the regular and the purple backed. I dont know if you can return the games, but get the manufacturers phone number and they will replace the game with one that will play.

Hey The best trick to fix the problem is to open up the system and dust it out. then put in a new magnet. (most refridgerator magnets are good enough when cut to size) with the older PS2s the heavier discs fall out of place ( black and purple) because they are too heavy for the magnet to hold in place.

If it makes a clicking sound u need a new magnet. If it just doesn`t play it may be worn out and there is nothing you can do but buy a new one. I personally don`t know where to get it fixed but i have heard good things about GameStop.
