Where can I find information on electric guitars?

I want to find out about some sites that sell e. guitars and/or giver information about them, like tone and other things I'd like to know about if I was to purchase an electric guitar. I just wanna know about the e. guitars before I buy one, so i know what I'm doing.

Update:

By the way, the type of music I'd be playing is ROCK, so these guitars need to sound good when distorted by an amp.

Google it.... or go to a place that specializes in guitars/ music. Like Guitar Center. Just make sure you know what type(s) of guitars you are looking for. (it helps)

    Try these sites-www.zzounds.com

    www.americanmusicalsupply.com

    www.musiciansfriend.com

These sites tell all features of the guitar, and even have consumer reviews. The first site listed is the best for consumer reviews. The Ibanez RG series is the best way to go for a hard rock guitar

buy a guitar mag. look at adverts web sites .I strongly suggest though that you do not buy an expensive(or more than 200$ guitar )to learn how to play on.before you are coordinated enough youll be scratching it all up all over with wild pick strums. its best just to get a beginner guitar /amp package and a distortion pedal.and when you feel you have progressed enough then you trade in and buy a quality guitar

I must say, everyone could list their favorite type of material used for the body and neck, but if you really want it to be custom to your specifications you should do some research on what the pros and cons are for every wood type, same goes for pick ups. Since it would just be a less personal custom-made guitar if you make it to everyone else's specifications. Anyways, I prefer a mahogany body on some of my guitars.

talk to someone who's played a while. and remember you get what you pay for. epiphone les pauls and the new lines of prs SE series are really some of the best you can get in terms of money/quality ratio.
