Phantom DVD rom drive.?

I recently installed 2 cd rom drives to replace 2 dvd rom drives but in My Computer it shows 3 removable media drives, 2 cds and the Phantom DVD. I've tried uninstalling it via the Device Manager but it just comes back. Any ideas?

Programs like Alclhol 120% ,Daemon Tools, Game Drive, etc. create VIRTUAL DRIVES, which won't show up in BIOS, but they'll be installed when Windows starts. Check if you have any such programs running, and check their settings. If you're still not sure about a program, try uninstalling it. That should take care of the Phantom Drives. Also, for XP, run msconfig (click start, run, and type msconfig in the box}. Tab over to Services. Check the box that hides all Microsoft Services. Uncheck any service that you're unsure of. (you can always go back and re- enable it} You'll have to restart.

    Good Luck
