I have worked at same job for 32 years / what next?

I have worked at fixing coffee brewing devices and sales dept for over 32 years and now I am retiring. To what I don't know. I am in my early 50's. Any ideals about what is next for me. I am handy with a lot of things but what to do something real different. Please give me your thoughts.

Take up a hobby to help pass the time

Get out and meet some new people (join a club or a gym)

Do some volunteer work so that you'll still feel useful

Take some classes at a local college...learn something new

Travel if you can afford to...there are tour groups if you don't have a travel partner (or take me...LOL)

You could get you MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) with probably less than a year's worth of classes. This would allow you to work independently fixing basic systems glitches, installing software, doing virus recovery, etc. Depending upon where you live, you could charge anywhere from $45 to $250 for a service call.

There is a growing need for licensed companions, that is people who care for the elderly or persons with brain injuries who don't need a nurse, but do need help with bathing/toiletries/going to the movies, etc. Most states have very easy licensing requirements and you do not need a license to hire into a group home somewhere. Within a year you could seek a new position with your limited experience and hire in at $12+ an hour without licensing. Get licensed, get Red Cross certifications for cpr and you could easily make $18+ an hour.

I suggest that you start with temporary services to get your feet wet, such as Snelling, Manpower and similar. Just Google employment agencies. Maybe do that for a while to get a feel for what you might like to do.

Here's a link that you might have use for: http://www.jobdig.com/content/articles/169/Inspira...

    Best wishes and God bless!

Maybe you can work for yourself? If you are very handy, then perhaps you can spend time fixing peoples things - a lot of people do need help - I recently had a fellow do things for me in my flat - he was quite handy - and he helped to make my flat more liveable and enjoyable.

What's next? Retirement, senior citizens centers, Alzheimers,

boredom, chronic illness, loneliness, fixed income living,

funerals, bad teeth, wheelchairs- well, you asked.

Keep active, find hobbies (hey, maybe FIX things), do this (Yahoo), basically, just stay warm.

Write a book about your experiences. Any book can be interesting. It'll take you a few years, but it could be a lot of fun.
