How can I best learn Hindi?

I want to learn Hindi, but the language does not come easy to me even though I am living in New Dehli, India. I know many words, but I have trouble distinguishing individual words in conversation and speaking the language is difficult. How can I best learn Hindi?

Update:

Delhi, not Dehli---sorry for the typo.

I try to understand and to speak the language when I can, but with my own accent it is difficult to be understood. Also, for me it is hard to distinguish individual words in spoken conversation---they all seem to run together.

I am a highly visual learner, I need to see the words written in English letters to remember them better.

Can anyone recommend a Hindi course in New Delhi for foreigners?

I have the same problem. I can read Hindi and understand what I read. But, when I try to listen to a conversation, I only get about 1/2 of it.

Definitely watching TV will help. And, go to see movies in Hindi, which is easy, because you are in India, where Bollywood is a major part of the culture.

If you can rent some Hindi movies, even better. Then you can watch them over and over.

You've just got to expose yourself more to the spoken language. Don't be afraid to ask people to speak slowly or repeat what they've said.

And, practice your Hindi as well. Speak as much as you can, even if it's not perfect.

Just by listening to it more, eventually you'll understand.

The Pimsleur and Rosetta Stone materials are good too. Both have materials spoken by native speakers.

Hello the ideal narrow child, sure finding out language is an intriguing procedure. Better concentrate first the language. Especially watch and concentrate the discussion within the Hindi serial utilizing headphone. Have this train everyday in most cases. Definitely you begin speakme Hindi. Better learn small experiences in Hindi. Then larger opt for novels. Surely you grow to be good verse in that language. Same system is to be adopted in just about all languages.

from your post it seems that you want to learn spoken Hindi.

In spoken Hindi i have understood your point that in conversation you are not completely getting it. the reason is simple in speaking Hindi people use different accents, sayings(which changes from one Hindi speaking state to other Hindi speaking state). alot of time people speak Hindi different from what it is written.

to learn Hindi try to speak Hindi, may look Hindi movies. you can hire a Hindi teacher.

if you like i can teach you spoken and(or) written Hindi on line. i use pen tablet with a white board. i live 260 kms north of Delhi in Dehra Dun.

I am assuming that you have not lived in Delhi very long. There are courses offered you may take in Delhi and listening to TV, conversing with people even in broken Hindi will eventually improve it.
