Who won the Jermaine Taylor v Winky Wright fight?
This is a tough question, but I have to go with Taylor. He hurt Winky Wright on several occassions. Winky did land a thousand jabs in the fight, but this isn't amatuer boxing. This is the BIG TIME, where fights are decided by having the BEST round. After watching the fight several times, Jermaine won 6 of the first 11 rounds. The question then comes to, who won the 12th round? Taylor tried to fight and actually landed a few blows, while Wright ran around thinking he had the fight won. You can't win the championship running from the other fighter in the 12th. I have Jeramaine winning the 12th and the fight.

I agree with your assertion. Taylor won the fight. Taylor was clearly more "in-charge" throughout the fight. This is not to say Winky did not make it close the second half of the fight, because, indeed he did. Having said that, let me also point out the fact that ever true fan/ student of boxing knows that you are rewarded for aggressiveness, and, ring generalship. Forget everything else, but, if we simply looked at two virtually unknown fighters and one displayed the ring generalship, and, (controlled) aggression that Taylor did in the fight, there is no doubt that that fighter would win. In closing let me simply say, Styles make fights---and judges/and politics ruin them. Well, atleast we get to see the rematch, this will most likely be a trilogy. I hope not, but, more likely than not. For the record, Jermain is a super fighter.

I disagree. Although Taylor was throwing with more conviction the whole fight, Winky Wright was blocking almost all of Taylor's punches and was alot more active. As of the 12th round, I thought it wasn't running away that Winky Wright was doing, but "boxing" instead of walking into Taylor's punches. I also feel that the HBO announcers were extremely pro Taylor, and I didn't like that, but either way, what a fight!

This is why boxing and sport is such a great thing. Everybody sees a fight a different way. As a neutral(think both fighters are great). Winky Wright just edged Taylor but win a large money fight you have to win the fight by a large margin as judges (at times) do not like giving decisions on mega fights for fearing of losing their jobs or monies.

The fight was a draw. A case can be made for either Taylor or Wright. I agree that Jim Lamply certainly was pro Taylor. Taylor did throw more power shot, however, Wright blocked many of them, and didn't appear hurt by the shots that landed.
It's is true that style does make fights. This is one of the problems with very good fighters such as Ronald
"Winky" Wright, his style is difficult, in part, because his defense is excellent. The casual boxing fan doesn't give credence to good defense. Also, he doesn't posses one punch knock out power. I think he relies on accumulation of punches. I think the majority of boxing fans want to see the dominating knock out as opposed to the close boxing match that this fight turned out to be.

your assessment is right on point. winky made a huge mistake of thinking he had the fight easily won and didnt have to fight the last round. he must have forgot that he was the challenger and had to take the belts from the champion. his corner told him rightfully so that he had to win the 12th round so when he decided not to fight it i wondered what the hell he was doing. jermain tried to fight his best but he had one eye so why winky didnt take advantage of that confused me. He made the same mistake oscar made against trinidad. im just happy that judges dont let you off tha hook when you choose to run in the late rounds because i spent 50 dollars for a 12 round fight and i wanted to see one. Whats suppose to be the best round of any fight ended up being extremely boring because winky ran, however he did fight a great fight and proved he belongs up there with taylor.

It was a great fight and I would pay 2 see the rematch I do agree with the draw Winky should have one but he was stupied and let Taylor win the 12th

I also gave the last round to Taylor - and I still had it a draw.
I thought Wright was masterful in blocking Taylor's best punches, and keeping his jab in Jermain's face all night long.
It was a great fight - one I'd love to see again.
Great boxing.

I think I had Winky up by two points in that fight, but Taylor was HBO's baby boy and the fight was held in Memphis--essentially, Taylor's back yard.

the judges are dumb in the fight between taylor and wright they said it was a draw
