What colors do you mix to paint a moonlit scene.?
For many years now I've been trying to capture the tint and color of the full moon light as it hits the blades of grass and leaves of the flowers in our front garden. What colors do you mix? I'm not into 'impressionistic' interpretation of the scene but rather a true to life colors of "magic Realism".

Mix some purple with a midnight blue and put a lot of stars (white centers with just a touch of yellow which is muted with white around the edges). Don't put purple all over your sky, just on the darkest parts. For "Magic Realism", put a mystical "halo" around some of the flowers, and be sure to highlight your grass with some yellows and lighter greens. Enjoy! Experiment, too!!! Some of the most fun in painting that I have comes from mixing the colors.

It depends on the aura you want your painting to portray, if you want a clear starlit sky then your best bet will be darker shades of blue with hints of purple for character, if u want a more realistic portrayal you should add to your picture still wind-whipped clouds which will require that you use some greys as well.

i would shades of purple and drk blues but do not use black, would make your image flat.
