Does anybody know what this may be used for?

Bought it at a yard sale because it matches my living room where I collect African masks.

It also comes with a scoop. I only paid 2 dollars for it.

It looks like a grain keeper. In some African as well as Asian countries rice and grains were taken from a communal storehouse in containers similar to that to be brought home. It certainly isn't a motor and pestle. it is wood is too soft a surface for breaking down spices and motor & pestles do not have a scoop or ladle.

What ever it is , it sure looks nice. Good shopping!!!

As it also comes with a scoop, I have a feeling that it could be a container where one serves cold desserts or drinks.

It would make a unique planter. I don't recommend putting food in it.
