Question about downloading a DVD.?

I would like to be able to download a few of my DVDs (movies, shows, etc) but I haven't a clue as to how. Is it because they are copyrighted or am I missing something? Please help. :)

Update:

Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. I want to be able to upload my DVDs onto my computer. Only, I'm clueless lol.

Well it all comes down to the program that u use, if it's a free program like Limewire or other file-sharing software then screw the copyrights thingy, but if it's another program like moviesanddownloads.com, then yeh they will care about that stuff
