can you run linux within mac os x?

I am trying to run linux within mac os x. Why? I am really bored I guess. Well anyhow, I want to be able to run linux inside a mac os x window without buying virtual pc. Is there anything free out there that will allow me to do this?

Apple offers a free version of the emulator qemu, so I guess you could install Linux under that.

Of course, most open-source tools that run on Linux are also available in versions for Mac OS X, because OS X is built on another flavor of Unix (BSD).

If your goal is more focused on running applications than on running the OS, see the list of open source Unix software Apple offers for OS X.

No, as the mac os x require a unique type of processor where as linux is only able to work on specifis single and dua; core processor pc, so you can not do that.

it depends on what processor you're using - intel or ppc for a start.

if your using intel then you might be able to install in parallel (for windows) within windows (ie 'emulating' in windows)...

or use boot camp to install windows, boot to windows and install via windows on your harddrive

There are free things to download but I would not suggest doing it as it voids whatever warranty you have on your computer.
