If the other answers don't work, then empty the freezer, fill a pan with ammonia, and close the freezer and leave it that way for several days. The ammonia will kill all the bacteria in the freezer that are making the smell. When the days have elapsed, air out the freezer and wipe down. The smell should be gone.

Empty out freezer and turn off- Check bags and other items, they may have picked up the scent; plastic is usually the culprit.

Clean with hot water and bleach ( include ice cube trays and any other plastic dividers or shelves in this process). Air out, repeat with hot water and baking soda.

Frost free freezers ( the only kind available anymore)- hold onto odors- I try to do this at least once a year. Add a box of baking soda to the freezer to control odrs in the future. Some people also recommend charcoal briquets to control odors.

Wash it out really well with a bit of bleach and water, then leave a new pack of baking soda in the freezer. It should take the smell out.

wash down well with warm water with a box of baking soda added to it. Empty this water in the bottom of the freezer & shut lid for 24 hours. Scoop it out the next day with your dust pan. Dry well & cut a few cedar boughs & place in freezer for a few days with lid shut. Cedar will absorb the odors
