Algebra help?
I am going in to the 8th grade next year. My math class will be Advanced Algebra 1 and I am worried that I will struggle. Does anyone have any suggestions about what to do? I really enjoy being in advanced math but I don't want to be forced out of it because of my grades.

You can get a private tutor for extra help, and to make sure you understand everything, sometimes the school will have tutors you can hire. You can ask a friend, or peer who is excleing to help you out with math. Usually teachers have days they stay after to help students, and if he/she doesn't you can ask them to and most likely they will be glad to help! A parent can be of assistance also. You should definatly have a routine, to get your homework done as soon as you get home, homework is usually 20% of your grade so it counts!!! STUDY for all of your tests, be sure to ask for help a few days before the test so you will understand the matter and get a good score!!!

If you've done well in math so far, you won't flunk out of 8th grade algebra unless you work at flunking out. If you're really worried and have the money, a private tutor might not be a bad idea, but remember that math is logical. There are rules. If you don't understand something, it is probably your teacher's fault for not explaining the rules properly. Just don't be afraid to ask them to clarify. I'm sure you once thought multiplication was hard, but if you're going into advanced algebra, I'm sure you don't find it nearly so mystifying now.
As far as the actual math goes, remember your BEDMAS and the rest will fall into place.

First, relax don't stress. I had algrebra 1,2,3, geometry and I prepared a friend for her GED math. My advice is when you get there don't try to understand where they get all the strange figures you will be working with. Concentrate on learning the formulas and writing them down with each problem you do. When you do this each time you see a problem or read a problem like it, all you have to do plug in the numbers and you will ace it each time. It will be the same thing when it comes to geometry also. Most of all enjoy you summer, don't stress over something that hasn't happen yet? If you have difficulties there are always tutors and math programs on disc.

Hmmm. I loved Math too...went on to Adv. Alg I in 8th grade...and I got a B =( I was very disappointed.
If you think you'll struggle and STILL want to be in the class...get a tutor and study like there's no tomorrow. If you aren't willing to put forth the extra work, go for the easier class. I wish I would've taken my own advice =P
