What exactly would this mean?

Hello, I start a new job on Monday, I was told that the dress code is business dress/professional. Exactly what type of attire would that be?

    Congrats on the new job!

Professionl attire is suit and tie, for sure.

Here's a handful of advice, for what it's worth:

Make sure it's all lint-free, polish the hell out of those shoes, shave, cut your hair if it's too shaggy, comb/brush hair, wear appropriate socks (not gym/casual socks), wear skivvies, belt, jacket. Tie your tie; make sure it's neat and straight (not to go below the midpoint of your beltbuckle!) Shower. Groom yourself completely. Remove earrings. Wear a ring only if it's a wedding ring. Wear a watch, but don't check it constantly. Brush. Wear a bib or something if you drink coffee before going to work - it may look and feel silly, but you do NOT want any "accidents" on your first day. You'll thank me for the bit of dorkiness later.

Eat a mint or two before going into the office.

Arrive no less than 15 minutes early.

Greet everyone with a sincere "hello". Don't get "palsy" with corworkers, there's time for that later.

Learn the details of your job, where the emergency exits are, where the bathrooms are.

Screw the coffee fund - someone will always drink more than their fair share of coffee.

Do NOT be afraid to ask questions. Get to know the "rules" for breaks, personal email use, etc.

    Don't be a clock watcher.

Don't expect to stay too late, but don't expect that you'll leave early.

    RELAX, but not too relaxed.

    BE yourself, but be professional.

Do whatever it is you were hired to do, and do it best!

    Remember: You rock!!!

Now... Chin up! Walk through the door. Take the place by storm!

    Good luck!

Dress nice. Not like you are going on a date where the skirt is too short, the cleavage is popping out, see thru tops, or like a girl going out to a bar to get picked up. So many girls dress like they are out to get a man to pick them up.

Dress in a nice suit with a nice blouse. If you wear a nice skirt it shouldn't show your tush when you walk or bend down to pick something up. Your clothes shuould be neat and pressed. No holes, no stains, be sure to use arm deodorant and perfume or cologne. Did you notice what other people were wearing when you applied? Sometimes that is a cue. If they gave you an introduction packet when they hired you read it, sometimes dress code information is hidden in there. If you have tattoos cover them up. Also take an extra outfit in cae you happen to have any food accidents the first day. Pick nice shoes that you won't get tired wearing after 3 or 4 hours. Buy some Dr. Schools inserts if neccessary. Try not to wear anything opened toed the first day because you don't know what all you will be doing to begin with. Waer water proof make-up. Be sure to cary plenty of gloss/balm or chapstick in you pocket. And a few bobby ins as the day goes on in case your hair get any fly aways. Don'e wear too much jewelry and if you have more than one earring wear only one earring on each ear.

If your a guy suit and tie and take an extra tie incase you have a spill.

    Good luck.

Hum now that can be tricky because that is really left up to interpretation and the last thing you want to do is on your first day feel like a fool for being to dressy or underdressed. Here is what I suggest. Go in and take a quick tour of the place. Check out what your future Co-workers are wearing and wear something just a little bit better. Why? Well because they have been there longer than you so they have relaxed a bit but they still need to stay within the dress code. If you look better than them but just by a little you will be right on target. Good luck and congratulations!

Business Dress Professional means shirts, ties, dress slacks, dress shoes.........No dockers and tennis shoes or deck shoes. Dress shirts---with collars, a tie---not a clip-on, shine your dress shoes, make sure you have matching dark socks---no white socks--a nice belt.

Suits are good, but dress pants and a nice sports coat is good. You can take off your coat when you get to work, but wear the jacket into the door.

Congratulations on your first day, and God Bless you!

Conservative in dress. For men a dark suit ,tame tie,no short sleeve dress shirts under your suit.Nice dress shoes no tennis shoes. For a woman a suit with a nice blouse ,nothing low cut or too tight closed toe shoes with a small to med. heel.Nylons. No clunky, flashy accessories .No tank tops . I hope this helps you a little. Oh and good luck in your new job.

Suit and tie. And make sure your shoes are shined and match your socks to the suit. Do not wear white socks. You may be able to do a sport coat but the suit and tie on the first day is best. And remember shine your shoes..everyday! And never wear white socks!

Good luck at your new job!

When I was told this....I thought it meant suit/tie or dress suit....well i showed up in a skirt suit and was way over dressed.... How embarrassing. I would suggest Slacks and a blouse or blazer if your a woman or slacks and a dress shirt and tie if your a fella

Suits. For women, Buisness suits, or dresses with hose and dress heals. Nothing that shows cleavage, or too much leg. For men, Suits with tie and dress shoes.

If you don't know maybe you shouldn't have got the job. Dress like the person who interviewed you and then change the next day if you don't fit in with your colleagues. Then maybe, depending on the profession, you should just wear lots of feathers.

I know that KelsyS was trying to be helpful, but Victoria's Secret is NOT the place to get respectable women's business wear. The purpose of Victoria's Secret's clothing is to attract sexual attention, and that is NOT what you want to do at work.

Go to Talbots.com to get an idea of what a respectable woman should wear at work.

Source(s): I know the difference between a Brooks Bros. suit and a Frederick's of Hollywood skirt & jacket.
