electric guitar- Can anyone recommend book or website to learn how to play?

My son is 11 years old and he just got an electric guitar. I would need something simple for him because he has never played before. An instructional DVD would probably be even better.

Here is a site I found for you. http://www.guitarnoise.com/

or check these sites out: http://www.ask.com/web?q=free+guitar+lessons&qsrc=...

I have a grown son, but when he started I got lessons for him and paid about 15/20 dollars a lesson.... go to a music store and usually the guys that sell guitars are willing to give lessons for a lower price. Most are in bands themselves and need the extra cash, haven't made it yet, and are playing around at local clubs. There are usually signs up on the bulletin boards in music stores.........get him a cool older teen - twenties to teach him, one that knows what he is doing and your son will not lose interest and will excel at it. He will like someone younger and can relate better than to a real old teacher... Also teachers at a school are always looking for extra money. I rec. to you that you get a person to teach him, proper way to hold the guitar, chords, read music. rather than a DVD.. Be patient and let him play and play.... I really know what I am talking about, really. With time and practice he will make it - I know for sure!

I wish you much luck and buy ear plugs for both of you.

He needs to learn to read music brfore he learns tabulature...it will be quicker and easier for him.

    1) Am I too old to learn to play the electric guitar? No, several professional guitaists didn't start until after 15. If you're talented, the age barely matters. 2) How long would it take to become that good? (Video) Depends on your talent and commitment level. You may never get there. Not everybody that paints water colors is shown in museums right? With dedication, some talent and excellent instruction, taking a W.A.G. 3-5 years. 3) How many hours practising per day would it take to become that good? (Video) I know of several aspiring-pro guitarists and real pros who practice 8 hours a day. They treat it like it's their job. They take it that seriously. 4) Is there a special name for a guitar like that? (Plays long high notes like in the video) From memory I think it's an Ibanez. Most shredders play Ibanez or Jacksons. 5) Best way to learn to play like this (Other than a human teacher), e.g specified books/websites? I have said many times this is a great time to be a beginner because there's so much info available. Youtube, the library and many online instructional sites. There's some highly recommended CD sets I've seen suggested here on Yahoo Answers. 6) *IMPORTANT* Could you please specify a certain guitar and where to buy it from that is the same sort of type as the one in the video (Must be electric), is good for beginners and is good quality, preferably under £150. Like I said previously Ibanez or Jackson. Get the best you can afford. You don't want your equipment holdng you back. I want to buy one soon, as the Christmas sales will be on and I will probably get money, so I need information ASAP!

He really should learn to play on an accoustic first. Electric is the next step up really, and most guitar players learn on an accoustic. However, there are loads of books available for beginners. Cheap ones on ebay.

go to gutar center. Somone there will help you out. And it doesn't matter that he's learning from an electric, just as long as he learns the basics FIRST. Make sure he learns TAB because it's the easiest way...then learn to read music....
