Windows 98 does not have built-in support for USB storage devices like flash drives. Only 2000, Millennium Edition, XP and 2003 have it. The manufacturer of your flash drive should have 98 drivers available on their website.

    For Lexar Jump Drives:

    Sandisk USB flash drives:

First off Joe, Why are you upgrading from windows 95 to windows 98? If you system is now Windows 98, you should now upgrade it to Windows XP and then your USB will be detected, and you will get support for Windows XP. Windows 98 is no longer supported by Microsoft. So my suggestion is to upgrade from Windows 98 to Windows XP Home Edition.

You need to download driver for your USB ports. Go to www.dell.com to see if driver is available for Win98, otherwise ring up tech support to point where the driver can be downloaded from.

Unless the USB ports are 2.0, then your flash drive won't be detected.
