there is no good reason why kids shouldn't listen to rap music.

they're going to do what they want. the best thing you can do is teach them that the things they hear in a lot of rap music today is a far stretch from reality. a lot of this is misunderstood as meaningless nonsense when really, its just entertainment - just like any episode of cops or a movie you've seen. and there are people out there that can relate to it. its really too bad people aren't more open minded and accepting of different styles of music. just because they can't seem to relate to it they see it as a bad thing and a waste of time? anyways, as long as the kids know better than to believe that what they hear and see with rap music isn't true to real life, i don't see a reason why they shouldn't be able to enjoy it if that's what they want to do.

I'm a father of three daughters. and I have never told them that they shouldn't listen to rap or any other kind of music, personally I myself have always had a wide range of music I listen to, and I have encouraged them to have one also. As far as people saying that kids do what they hear on the radio&CD and see on TV, movies, and video games I have to disagree to a certain point. I've never seen a child that didn't copy or mimic something they had seen or heard, sometimes even as young as 18 months. But as long as parents discipline(not beat),love, communicate, and trust them(Until they give you a reason not to).So far it has worked for my wife of 16 years and I, but we still have a long way to go. I'm sorry for the long answer, but maybe it will help,.

Well, theres no specific reason unless you want kids to learn really bad language from Eminem!!! Will Smith is okay, but Eminem??NO NO.You DEFINITELY dont want your kid bad mouthing you and saying "f**k" every second.

Rap is okay its the way rap has evolved into more of cursing than the genre of music that will affect the child.Children will tend to follow what they listen to conciously or not, thinking its "cool" and they will not admit this but its true.

    Because you say so.

It promotes being a useless human or thug and being cool to be a looser that will never get anywhere because you think the only way to get out of the ghetto is to become a rap star.

I don't think kids should stop listening to rap.

I think the real problem is that kids tend to take the wrong messages to heart, and let something meant for entertainment to effect how they live.

rap "music" can promote violent urges. with most of the lyrics in rap "music" they pretty much "talk" about sex, drugs, rape, killing, and some things that just can't be understood. notice how much violence has gone up since rap came out back in the 80's?
