The exact answer from the source. I couldn't word it better myself. I was trained to give these tests during my graduate degree. I've actually given 8 of them. I score pretty well myself. I think flaunting one's number is a little rude however.

IQ stands for intelligence quotient. Supposedly, it is a score that tells one how “bright” a person is compared to other people.

    THE AVERAGE IQ IS BY DEFINITION 100;

(Typically so called “normal” people have an IQ range of 90- to 110. Scores above 100 indicate a higher than average IQ and scores below 100 indicate a lower that average IQ. Theoretically, scores can range any amount below or above 100, but in practice they do not meaningfully go much below 50 or above 150.

Half of the population have IQ’s of between 90 and 110, while 25% have higher IQ’s and 25% have lower IQ’s:

    Descriptive Classifications of Intelligence Quotients

    IQDescription% of Population

    130+Very superior2.2%

    120-129Superior 6.7%

    110-119High average16.1%

    90-109Average 50%

    80-89Low average16.1%

    70-79Borderline6.7%

    Below 70Extremely low2.2%

Apparently, the IQ gives a good indication of the occupational group that a person will end up in, though not of course the specific occupation. In their book, Know Your Child’s IQ, Glen Wilson and Diana Grylls outline occupations typical of various IQ levels:

140Top Civil Servants; Professors and Research Scientists.

130Physicians and Surgeons; Lawyers; Engineers (Civil and Mechanical)

120School Teachers; Pharmacists; Accountants; Nurses; Stenographers; Managers.

110Foremen; Clerks; Telephone Operators; Salesmen; Policemen; Electricians.

100+Machine Operators; Shopkeepers; Butchers; Welders; Sheet Metal Workers.

100-Warehousemen; Carpenters; Cooks and Bakers; Small Farmers; Truck and Van Drivers.

90Laborers; Gardeners; Upholsterers; Farmhands; Miners; Factory Packers and Sorters.

    Normal Iq Score Range

IQ ranges, average IQ scores, and IQ ratings are usually only relative - and they can change over time and with different tests.

That said, it is generally accepted that for any IQ test that the average score is 100.

50 or below - most adults cannot cope outside of an institution. They can typically be taught to read at a 3rd or 4th grade level. They typically require special training programs.

Between 50 and 75 - Generally cannot complete elementary school. Most adults will need help to cope with day to day living.

Between 75 and 105 - Generally cannot complete a college prep course in high school.

Between 105 and 115 - May graduate from college but generally, not with grades that would qualify them for graduate school.

    Above 115 - No restrictions.

Well I have taken one, got 126 on it. So from looking at the chart below here that's gifted. So look at that chart, see where your at. But they change over time, right now I am 17 and a senior in High School. I am more advanced than anyone in my class and everything the teacher teaches, I already know or I pick it up like instantly. I am really smart in computers though. I even had to teach my computer teacher alot of things, so yeah, I would say I am pretty smart.

    Designation Intelligence interval

    Average 85 - 115

    Above average 115 - 125

    Gifted 125 - 135

    Highly gifted 135 - 145

    Genius 145 - 155

    Genius 156 - 165

    High genius 166 - 180

    Highest genius 181 - 200

That is a very offensive question to some groups. Especially the word "normal". There was a book written in 1994 called "The Bell Curve" that really caused a debate with lots of accusations tossed around. For more recent comments about inate intelligence check out the link below. His most recent column "Down, Down, Down" is a good start. Then try "Multiculturalism And Alligators" which is guaranteed to upset a lot of people.

    Moving right along.......

Do a search on Yahoo for online IQ tests and you will find plenty of ones to pick from.

Last IQ test I took was about two years ago and I scored 133. Supposedly 100 is the average. I don't really subscribe to the view that I.Q. tests are really all that valid, though. It has the same flaw that any test has; if you are good at taking tests, then, more than likely you will score well and vice versa if you aren't. That simply means it will end up testing your ability to take tests rather than just simply what your general intelligence is. That is just my opinion of it, though.

I took a psychology course in college and spent a week on this. If I am remembering correctly, 100 is average....most college students are between 110 and 130. 130 is supposedly really intelligent. If you took the IQ test online though you pretty much wasted your time because they are crack, it's hundreds of dollars to take a real one and you have to go through a psychologist to do it.

100 is suppose to be average, -but that was average when the scale was developed. Anything below 70 is classfied as 'retarded', and anything above 155 or 175 is genius.. but the 2nd one, I'm just guessin'.

I went to college and all... but I think between drugs and TV.. my iq migt be x95

Normal is between 110 and 115. if you're worried about your I.Q., remember, it is only a number, it doesn't define who you are. People can have genius I.Q's, but that doesn't make them smart. It's what you do with your mind, and alot of that is common sense. Just by asking your question ,shows that you're smart.
