If you live in the UK, how do you identify your local region?
I'm not looking for names of towns or cities, but commonly used local region names where your city/town is located. Do you use traditional county names or the government office regions used to identify your local region?
I know the names of the counties and govn't office regions. I just wanted to know (from folks who live there) which is most commonly used---like when you describe where you live to someone who isn't from England, Scotland, Ireland, etc.

I think that's them all! Some are the traditional names that are still used, but some have been revamped over the years e.g In Scotland east Lothian was traditionally Haddingtonshire, but the lists I have given are the most up to date of all the Uk counties as referred to by everyone.... as far as I'm aware!

As I live in Swindon, that is in the COUNTY of Wiltshire, which in turn is in the South West REGION.
