There are many reasons why there can be a Gamma Ray burst. They are extremely interesting to observe in astronomy because they are the witnesses of something extremely energetic going on. There can be multiple causes for a Gamma ray burst. You can have the explosion of a supernovae, the energy emitted by particles as they accelerate into the event horizon of a black hole. If you've ever heard of quasars, they are far away galaxies that we see in the visible or IR spectrum that are actually Gamma Rays being red shifted to visible or IR wavelength. This happens because the black hole at the center of that galaxy is eating up it's surroundings. This doesn't affect Earth much because there are so few. Useful to observe them, but they don't have an impact on population health or such matters.

Origin of the Gamma Ray blast...oooh oooh oooh....

So like Doctor Banner was involved in this accident with top secret technology and well, the story kinda' gets a little muttled here, but he saved this one guys life and got the Gamma ray blast in the chest. The origin is kinda' top secret and stuff ya' know, they won't release why or how the experiment overloaded.

So then this doctor, when he gets all angsty and stuff, rips out of his clothes and makes these huge leaps across the Earth. I think like once he jumped so far he entered the upper stratosphere or somethin'. I could really see him hitting the moon and knockin' it out of place if he was actually lucky about his planned jumps from satelite to satelite.

I'm serious, the great Seer, Stan lee predicted it all. I have it all write here in the green Bible.

(Oh I understand that, I just couldn't resist, I am the ultimate laughing hyena when it comes to funny stuff that I think is funny, perhaps no one else, but I do...and that's all that matters in my mind.

My answer was designed to make atleast one person laugh, I am sorry I failed miserably at your expense. Perhaps my next one might not be as boring for you as this one was. I do hope you have a great day, and no longer hold on to that silly thing called adulthood too tightly.

I believe they are caused by sun-storms, and the effects on earth are mainly just the northern lights, as we are protected from the radiation by the Van Allen belts(a magnetic field surrounding the planet).

wobbling neutron star. effects are minimal due to earths magnetic field
