Extreme Day at Calder?

The races run simultaneously - called "The World's Fastest Daily Double" by marketing will be one dirt race and one turf race. They won't be run on the same course, so it makes sense. I was reading some of the answers to your question and would like to add that racing in Australia runs boyh ways. In Victoria the horses run anti-clockwise, while in Queensland and New South Wales they run clockwise. Many a state champion has fallen by the wayside when asked to run in the opposite direction in another state. Then again some horses relish going the other way.

I saw this ad in the Saturday DRF, and I am interested how it would work. I thought at first it would be a race starting at the 6 furlong chute and one at the 1/4 mile chute, and let them both go off.

This sounds very interesting to me as it would be more of a circus than an actual day of racing.

In regards to the horses running clockwise, it looks like it may be a way to draw foreign horses to Florida.

I'm sure it makes sense from a business point of view. The ticket sales should be astounding! I hope the injuries are minimal! I was wondering if American tracks would ever go clockwise! It actually could have a positive effect on the energy flow, or it could backfire & have a negative effect! It should be ONE memorable day. 7/22/2006
