If child support enforcement decides you have to pay support do they send you something saying how much?
And can they decide that you have to pay if you're not working?

Child support enforcement doesn't make the decision. Depending on the state, either a hearing officer of the district court, or a district court will determine whether or not you are required to pay child support.
Child support is based on rules intended to protect the child and provide for their welfare. If you are not working, then the Court looks at the situation to determine if you are purposly not working, and what your earning potential is. In other words, if you are trained as a neurosurgeon and properly licensed to practice, but choose to work at McDonald's instead, the Court may very well enter an order for you to pay child support on a neurosurgeon's salary.
They are required to notify you how much child support you are to pay, and to inform you what they base this determination on. You have an opportunity to challenge the amount in court. For this, I STRONGLY urge you to find a family law attorney in your area. He/she will know the correct procedures and can assist you in evaluating your situation.
If you don't have an attorney and don't know any, contact your local or state bar association and ask for a referral.

Yes. Normally there is a court hearing or if you ask for a dna test then the child support agency figures out how much you owe. Normally its based on how much you make and how much the other parent makes and its divided based on how much it takes to provide for the child a month. Then divided by like 4.3 for how much will be paid a week. I have seen judges tell the absent parent that he doesn't care if you have to work 3 jobs, the child support WILL be paid. In Maryland they will not let you renew your drivers license if you're behind either. Good Luck!

1st you have to go to court with the mother of this child or children and you have to fill out a piece of paper called a discovery of assets. You have to write down how much you make and where you are employed and how much your bills are and if you don't have a job, you are going to be ordered to find one by a certain date. The judge can order you to pay as much as $5 bucks a week to $500 dollars a week depending on how much you earn.
If you have mothered or fathered a child prepare to be in deep crap when you go in front of a judge claiming to not have employment.

In Ca the DA has to file a petition in court. So You would be summoned to court. Also they could take up 49% of your income. I you are collecting any aide they can and will garnish. You are still ordered to pay so not having a job is no excuse. your account will continue to grow with interest. This will hurt your credit report standing.
