Like the last person said get a camera that has a hotshoe so that you can put on an external flash, and make sure this flash can be swiveled upwards so that you may bounce the light instead of it pointing directly at the eye and bouncing back at the camera revealing the blood rich retina. All the cameras that you mentioned above have a preflash that essentially causes the pupil to contract thus reducing the red eye effect but it might not always be 100% because all these cameras have an on-axis flash that point directly at the person. A good flash should be away from the lens, preferably off the camera like a professional camera, or at least a lens that can swivel. Here are some other ways to reduce or prevent the red-eye effect.

Using bounce flash in which the flash head is aimed at a nearby pale coloured surface such as a ceiling or wall or at a specialist photographic reflector. This both changes the direction of the flash and ensures that only diffused flash light enters the eye.

Placing the flash away from the camera's optical axis ensures that the light from the flash hits the eye at an oblique angle. The light enters the eye in a direction away from the optical axis of the camera and is refocused by the eye lens back along the same axis. Because of this the retina will not be visible to the camera and the eyes will appear natural.

Taking pictures without flash by increasing the ambient lighting, opening the lens aperture, using a faster film or detector, or reducing the shutter speed.

    Using ambient light and then

digitally post-processing the image to increase its brightness.

Pushing the film development to increase the apparent film speed

Utilising red-eye reduction capabilities that are built in to many modern cameras. These precede the flash with a series of short low power flashes triggering the iris to contract.

Get your subject not to look straight at the camera, instead look at the shoulder of the photographer, by changing the angle red eye will be reduced. Since red eye is caused by the light from the flash reflecting off the retina and back to the camera lens, by altering the angle that the flash hits the subject, red eye effect is reduced

Increase the lighting in the room so that the subject's pupils are more closed.

They all have red eye because the flash is so close to the lens. They all work around this with a pre-flash setting - where the camera gives a few short flashes before actually taking the picture.

If you don't want that, get a camera that has a hot shoe for an external flash. This increases the distance between the flash and the lens by enough to avoid red eye.

red eye reduction means what it says - it takes away the red look that a flash creates on a person's eyes. You need it when a picture of someones eyes look redish.

You shouldn't worry with the red eye reduction in the camera, because it is so easily corrected with most photo editing software.

Some sites to check out for camera reviews and buying guides are:

The last site has great reviews, pictures that the camera captures, and comparisons
