Roll up a newspaper and give her a gentle smack on the nose and say "no" firmly. Don't hit hard enough to make it hurt. Just a friendly swat like you would give a kid when your horsing around.

You don't have to do it many times before she learns. She'll soon stop barking when you say '"no" and reach for the paper.

Just do it when there's nothing to bark at. Let her bark a little if someone is actually there.

My niece trained her dog to stop barking just by touching her snout with one finger.

  • My dog is the same way...I taught her the command "be quiet" all you do is when she barks go outside and say lay down and then roll her over on her back make her look into your eyes and say "be quiet" or if she responds to a squirt bottle use that. When she listens give her praise and/or a treat. After she starts to get the drift you can use it as a preventative, on her way out the door grab her muzzle, make her look directly into your eyes and say in a stern and commanding tone of voice "be quiet" if after you let her out she barks go directly outside and squirt her or say laydown and roll her over on her back make her look into your eyes and say "be quiet" sternly. This seriously works and involves no cost or really any effort on your part except consistency (make sure you use the same words every time) and it is effective. When I first adopted my 6 year old female dog she was so bad for it she would just run outside barking everytime I let her out with nothing in sight, after doing what I described above she now listens to "be quiet" and if I say it to her before she goes out she will not bark unless she really does see something and then all I have to say is "be quiet" and also my dogs know what "I'll squirt you" means and I add that on if she hesitates to comply with my commands.

The no-bark collars seem to work great. Some give mild static stimulation from a collar, others send out a high frequency noise, another one sprays a blast of citronella up towards the nose. Check out Innotek they are a very reliable brand. Drsfostersmith.com has advice and photos of these items. Generally most pet stores can get these for you. Also try talking to your veterinarian for some advice.

Some dogs just like to bark at every little thing. You could try an electronic bar collar or I've heard a squirt bottle with water in it works. When they bark, say a stern no, and give her a good squirt.

A cirtonella spray bark collar is great. A muzzle is not for barking and can be dangerous. Muzzles can restrict panting and make dogs aggressive. The shocker bark collars work, and when used properly are not cruel, but in my experience the citronella collar works much better. They run about $100 but are worth every penny.

Source(s): I've used both types of collars, and work at a pet store, I've had lots of feedback.

best 2 methods are both anti-bark collars. one emits an electrical pulse when the dog barks, it's not powerful, just enough to get her attention. the other emits a spray from underneath the dogs collar which the dog finds annoying. both work on the same principle, negative reinforcement. every time the dog barks, something unpleasant happens. they figure out petty quick to stop barking.

smacking her on the nose is not good for her. All that is teaching her is that she will get hit if she barks. You do not want her to quit barking. It is natural for a dog to do. Try giving her one word commands. dogs learn so much better with that. When she barks,,, say "NO", if the bark is unnecessary. if she stops give her a treat and say good girl or boy...

Well the best thing you can do is when she barks you just stop and say be quiet and then she will know to be quiett but you have t train her like that when she barks you stop on her leash and look at her and say shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

Go here for an awesome dog training program http://onlinedogtraining.enle.info/?T7r7

Since it is obvious that you do not have a clue about obedience training, your services should be for free. You cannot train even an adult dog for 8 hours a day. About the most that can be done at any one time is 10 - 20 minutes and that is with an adult dog and not a puppy. The attention span on this baby is extremely short and training session should be no more than 10 minutes and twice a day. Additionally, there isn t going to be much learned if you will only be training for 5 days. Obedience training is cumulative and is done over a much longer period of at least several weeks to several months.

What you can charge is determined by your experience, reputation, and accomplishments and in a case like this, should also include guaranteed expectations. Just working with dogs over several years, is not the experience that is necessary to be a dog trainer. There are too many people who are putting that title to their name and fleecing the public. Don t be one of them.
