As an American, I would likely try to work through the government to accomplish things, but at the same time, try to infiltrate them to make sure they are worthy of my support. A lot would depend upon my powers, but if I had my choice I'd be a shapeshifter. I could turn into anything and keep my mind and senses, so it would be a useful skill to catch terrorists and criminals. I could turn into some supplies or something and get myself smuggled into Osama's hideout. Wait until he's nearby and turn into knockout gas, then turn into a radio to call in the troops. I could do the same for criminals by being bait, be it a gang of expert car theives, or a serial rapist.

However, I would also use my power to sneak inot places like CIA and NSA and try to find out what the government knew and acted on aroudn the world. I'd expose things that the government did that were morally wrong, as opposed to mistakes they made in good faith. If I found out enough stuff, I may need to become a deserter and try to find another organization to support,or go free lance and try to return America to the sort of nation it was established as. I am not a conspiracy junkie, so i think it likely I'd continue working for the government, but may have to reveal some things in order to pressure some changes to occur as I do not trust where they are headed as of now.

I'd do a bunch of things, but the first would be to fix the ozone layer. Temps in New England are in the 90s with about 95% humidity, so it feels like 105. Miserably hot.

if I get super powers I would make my nation a poverty-free nation and try to establish equality among the people. The rich will have to surrender their excess wealth that will be shared among the destitute and downtrodden.

I would contribute to the end of mankind and reign with unmatched terrene through out the land. All jokes aside you know its going to happen. Face it.
