Dream Fight: Salvador Sanchez vs. Roberto Duran, who would win?

I'll go against the tide here, and go with Sanchez. He'd know what he was up against in a fighter like Duran, and would seek to punch & stick from the outside and move.

He wouldn't want to mix it up on the inside with the 'Hands of Stone'- they didn't call him that for nothing, and Sanchez would respect Duran's power.

I could see Sanchez winning a tactical boxing match from the outside.

Roberto Duran was neatly unbeatable as a lightweight and Salvador Sanchez was about 5 lbs lighter. Sanchez was a legend just like Duran with a tough chin and an incredible will to win as witnessed in his bout with Gomez. I believe Duran was a little too strong and would win a close decision.

I assume you mean Roberto Duran at 135 lbs. I don't think this would be a contest. Salvador Sanchez was a great fighter who left us much too soon but he would have to go from 126 to 135 which would be a big jump. Duran was in his prime at 135 when he may well have been one of the best lb for lb fighters in boxing history. Remember what Sanchez did to the seemingly invincible Wilfredo Gomez when he went from 122 to 126? Duran by TKO in 7.

At Lightweight Duran ruled the world, people don't give him the respect he deserves, if these two could of met i would probably have to give it to Stone Hands, theres no doubt it would be an absolute war. Its just a shame we never got to see more of Sanchez, he was that good in his early twenty's and he could well of gone on to be even better, but that's one thing we will obviously never know. Great question though.

I never thought of this match-up. I am torn because they are my two favorite boxers of all time. Sanchez because he stood for everything a true Mexican boxer is supposed to be and because of the beating he gave Wilfredo Gomez. Duran because my Dad took me a few times to go see him spar in Los Angeles in the mid-70's and we took a picture with him. I have that 8 x 10 up on my living room wall.

In their respective primes, although Sanchez was entering his prime when he passed, I'd say it would be a toss up. However, I believe that Sanchez would've preferred to die in the ring before quitting, so I'd have to give it to him by a nose.

both are exelent boxers but duran is a hot head wich could efect his game yet still duran was and is an awsome oponent who should never be looked past

Duran in his prime beats nearly anyone you can think of.

'Hands of Stone', but that's really just because I saw him fight a few times and he's my second favorite boxer ever behind Ali (I share a birthday, I can't help it). Not a great answer, but it would be a great fight.
