if animals don't have souls, can anyone explain Proverbs 12:10?
"A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast..."
The word translated into English Bibles as "life" in this verse is in the original Hebrew "nephesh", which literally means soul.
"A righteous man regardeth the nephesh (soul) of his beast..."
I've seen a lot of answers saying animals don't have souls and i'm wondering if anyone has ever noticed the Bible's answer to this question, beyond the descriptions of animals in Heaven - lion laying down with the lamb, etc., and the fact that in the Garden, God told Adam and Eve to "take care of the earth and the animals."
Didn't there have to be a reason for this? Do you see a bigger picture going on, or do you think animals are just learning props for humanity's journey?
PETA - have you never noticed this?

Hi there :), I think i can help the answer is yes animals DO have souls and god highly regards animals. If you look in genesis 1: 20,21,24,25 it should help you. Also genesis 2:7 shows that god breathed into the nostrils the breath of life and the man became a living soul. So anythjing that is breathing has been granted life by god and IS a living soul until his breath leaves the individual for good. Psalm 146:4 I to love animals and since the bible says that the very hairs on our head are numbered i dont think god doesnt know when and animal dies. I hope this helps you :)

The word used in the Bible for soul literally means the body whether it is talking about humans or animals. So yes animals have souls in that they have bodies. There is nothing that goes on to an afterlife if that is what you're asking. Unlike humans though animals weren't made to live forever and therefore their bodies or souls die and there is nothing in the Bible to support a resurrection for animals but only for humans. Yes Adam and Eve were to take care of the Earth and the animals. That was their job as given to them by their Creator. Anyways believe what you want but that is my belief on how the original Hebrew word nephesh is to literally be translated.

Hebrew is a language with far fewer words than English, so Hebrew-speakers and -writers have to make a word do more than one function (carry more than one meaning).
You are attempting to impose that limitation on English, when in fact, the translation you have (life instead of soul) results from the contextual translation of the more-word-poor Hebrew into the more-word-rich English.
Besides, if you take the rest of that verse (or Proverb as it were) and lay it down beside the first part that concerns you, you see how "soul" cannot be correct at all in the English translation.

It's possible, but no, animals cannot be saved the way a human can. I believe that the Proverbs verse you are refering to simply means 'to be a wise person you should treat your animal kindly, it will hurt if it feels pain'. The Bible never says specifically whether or not animals have souls, which basically dictates whether or not they'll be in heaven. All I know is this: I love animals tons, but if they are or aren't in heaven, it'll be the best place every - becuase of God. Not the presence or noexistence of animals.

My advice is to ignore a statement when it makes absolutely no sense. Anyone who tells you that "animals have no souls" is not speaking from personal knowledge, they are repeating something that they read or heard from someone else. Discover for yourself, look deeply into the eyes of an animal. You will find the answer.

Look, soul in latin means anima, that means in english, movement, all the animals or humans that have a movement have a soul. I think the meaning of soul is deterioring with the time. FOr example, flowers don't have a soul, because flowers don't move, ok??

Who says they don't? Of course they have souls, anyone who thinks otherwise are just ignorant. I don't believe in the bible, but I believe every living creature has its own soul.

The bible and science don't get together well.
Animals even have brains which is most precious of human possessions.
So they have souls too most surely

Of course dogs have souls. Some people here just try to ruffle feathers because they are not believers themselves.
