Does anyone have any home remedies for yeast infections in dog ears?

YES I have taken her to the vet...many times, nothing works...and yes I have been feeding her a food with alternative protein sources which has helped. But her ears are really stinky..right now she is laying under me and I can barely stand it...I have tried just cleaning them regularly but I havent found anything that works really well. The ear medicine from the vet just makes it worse, and any ear cleaners are too chemical and sting her....Also the problem is she uses her feet to scratch her ears and then licks her feet and sticks them in her ears again it makes her feet stink too, I do make her stop but I am noy here all of the time sooo...If anyone knows a remedy that can be used on the feet too? kill the bacteria there as well as in her ears would be nice...

Update:

PS the vet told me it was yeast infection... I got her as a stray but I can tell her other owners didnt take care of her ears one is scarred from an hemangeoma (sp) I think that is what its called so anyone with experience of a dog with chronic ear infections would be helpful.....

A vinegar solution is pretty good to use. Take 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water. Use something like a turkey baster or a baby nose bulb or a syringe, something to get the solution in the ears. Once the solution is in, rub the ears at the base (on the bottom close to the head) for about 30 seconds. Then take a cotton ball and wipe out any debris that comes out. You should do this 1-2 times a day for 1 week and then as needed.

Poor thing! Well, sorry to say there is no easy fix for this. I would start out by going to another vet. Ask them to flush her ears with a bulb syringe with betadine and warm water. That will get a lot of the crud out of her ears so the medicine can get down in them. Then ask for a medication called Baytril Otic. This is the good stuff! Be super dilligent about putting it in twice a day and rubbing her ears at the base to squish it around. You say she also feet-licks and between that and the ears, she's an allergic dog. Is the hair on her feet stained a rusty-red? It's a tell-tale sign and she might need to see an allergy specialist just to get things under control. Once her ear infection clears, you can cleanse the ears daily with a vinegar and water solution that's two parts water to one part vinegar. Rubbing alcohol on a cotonball also works great. But nothing will beat the ear cleaner MalOtic or DermaPet for ear maintainence. I would also ask them to clip up the hair on her feet and scrub them with a chlorhexidine solution and treat them with Malasetic wipes or spray. But with all-over yeast, I really feel that you should see an allergy specialist because you'll spend less money just going there than to a regular vet exhausting all these routes. Good luck!!!!

Only antibiotics from the vet will clear up an infection.

One of my dogs had this problem. It started at age one. She was having one ear infection a year. By the time she was five, she was have 4-5 ear infections a year.

I stopped all vaccinations for her at that time. And yes, they can cause it! She has not had an ear infection in the last year and a half.

I have a newfoundland dog and I have a home remedy for ears. Use one cup of gold mouth wash was with 1 teaspoon of boric acid. Mix together and use small squirt bottle to squirt into each ear. I do it once a week after ears look ok.

Home remedies are like herbal medicine...they'll work to a point..and then it comes back. My advice...take her to another vet. I've never seen a yeast infection that couldnt be cured by medicine.

My first response would be to take her to a different vet, but I have heard that you can use Lotrimin. It is an over the counter foot fungus medication. I would not recommend using this without talking to a veterinarian. Each case can be different. If she keeps itching her ears with her feet, try a cone. (goes around her neck). It looks stupid, but it really helps the healing process.
