Help settle an argument.. TP over or under?

For years I've been hearing arguments from men and women about why the toilet paper should be hanged one way or another.

Does anyone have a compelling argument and help settle this once and for all?

If you want to present toilet paper in the proper fashion, it should be over, so that you pull off the top of the roll, and when replacing or cleaning the bathroom, the end should be folded over to form a point for ease of use for the first user.

Under, because the TP spins a little easier and you're not just trying to rip one piece after another especially when the roll is full and rubbing against the wall. When it's under, it doesn't tear as easily so you can get more than one piece. But it does not take the incredible hulk to tear the toilet paper anyway.

I worked as a housekeeper in a fairly nice hotel for a short period of time and we were instructed that the proper way to place a roll of toilet paper on the roller was with the paper going over the roll.

Personally, at home it goes on the roll whichever way it happens to get on there. But, I do have to admit if the paper is going over the top of the roll it is much easier to work with.

I've found that it depends on where the TP roll is hung. In my bathroom now, the hanger is further back from the toilet so it's easier to rip when the paper is hung under but in other bathrooms it works the other way. And I know ... I've put way too much thought into this. How embarrassing!!!

    don't bother with toilet rolls...

    ...leave pile of rocks nearby!

Soon enough, people won't see the point of an etiquette to how paper should hang or if they need colourful prints of ducks to "pretty-up" as it's only going to wipe **** off...

TP should be hung over. This may sound crazy, but it's just more considerate for the next person who has to use it. The TP is more accessible, especially during those moments when the paper sticks to the roll and you have to find it and unstick it from the roll. "Over" is the way it should be!

TP is to placed on the roll so that one sheet is hanging over. This is from a girl who's parents made her go to proper etiquette school.

If it's hung over, when you go to tear it, it provides a cleaner tear than if it is hung under. Less chance of having a ragged piece of toilet paper for the next person to grab.

    Under...

Thanks to gravity, chances are the end of the TP will hang down so then you wont have to spin the roll like madd looking for the start....

See there's a reason to my madness!!!

It doesn't matter, the reason hotels and other public places hang the roll so that it peels off the back is to save on paper. When you pull it off the roll from the rear it tears off shorter thus saving paper.

It really comes down to personal preference, and is one of the small things in life. Compromise is the best solution. Try it over one day, and under the next for a little variety in life.
