the air bag light is on in my sebring convertible and i cant get to a dealer what do i do.?

There isnt much you can do beyond checking the fuses as you stated you have already done,some of the answers you have recieved are correct however disconnecting the battery for any amount of time will not "reset" the fault code nor will it "fix" this issue,even on a temporary basis.

Simply put,,your air bag system will not work until it`s checked/repaired,these systems are not for the "do-it-yourself" mechanic,please leave the repair to a qualified tech.

2005 Sebring Convertible

I am not sure if this a common problem, but on my 2006 Sebring convertible I need to put the passenger seat up a bit. That is to say not keep it all the way back. The light goes off and stays off. I am not paying a dealer to fix this 8 year old car. I also have a gas cap that if not seated properly will send the check engine light to turn on. I re-seat the cap and if necessary I remove the negative battery cable to clear the light. I have a OBD reader but it agrees with my solution. I have owned this car 1 year and will keep it for a long time as it is a extra car and does it's job. Is this Chrysler my favorite care? Not really but I have had worse.

If its only the light, I wouldn't say that its cause for emergency. I had a few cars that had the engine trouble light on for years, the same thing in all the cars.

In order for the light to come on a type of fuse, (its called a sensor) gets tripped or shorted, then the light comes on.

The light also comes on if there is a problem with the mechanism, but if your not planning an accident in the near future then dont worry to much.

As said before, it is probably a connection in a seat. The real problem is that, as long as the warning light is on, the air bags will NOT DEPLOY !!! I have an intermitent light on my 300M Special caused by a problem inside the drivers' seat. I can press against the side of the seat where the air bag is and reset the fault or move the connector beneath the seat to correct it. There is a bad connection somewhere inside the air bag mechanism in the seat not covered by warrenty, so it will be over $1300.00 out of my pocket to REPLACE THE ENTIRE SEAT !!!!!

Be aware of the fact that the airbags will not deploy properly in case of an accident.

If you state has a vehicle safety inspection it will probably fail until you get the system fixed.

You need to take it to a dealer to get it repaired. With airbag systems, I just don't trust independant garages.

Don't even think of messing with it yourself! Airbags are extremely dangerous in untrained hands. Like handing a loaded AK-47 to a 5-year old.

Dealers are everywhere. If the SRS warning lamp is 'on' then accidental deployment is almost impossible as the system defaults to 'off' when a problem is detected. If you are still worried, pull the fuse, buckle-up and ferry it to your nearest dealer.

Call your dealer, it may be a fuse - see what they can assist you with as far as trouble shooting, otherwise, take it in!

Most dealers these days offer shuttles to and from their locations, plan an earlier day and take it in before work, or whatever is making it difficult to get the car serviced.

Don't worry to much. ( It won't open prematurely)

I had the excate same thing with my Chyrsler. It was just a harness sensor under the passenger side airbag and cost 230.00 to fix. I would suggest getting it checked as soon as possible though as I was told, it probably would not have worked if it was involved in an accident.
