PHP files will some kind soul advise me how to open them please.?

I have dowmloaded a PHP file and for some insane reason I thought that I could open it with Adobe Acrobat, I have tried Googling and am now even more confused. The sensible thing would be to just to delete the thing but I have this sinking feeling that It was importanish.

PHP files are actually computer programs, not documents. They are not meant to be read by end-users. (You are getting them confused with PDF files -- which are indeed Adobe Acrobat documents).

If you do want to look at the PHP file (although it will look like a secret code to you), simply right-click on the file, select "Open With", then "Choose Program". In the window that opens up, find "Notepad" and select it.

php files can only be opened on a computer that is running a php program. Normally for most folks, you need to use the file in conjunction with a web host that supports PHP.

Assuming that the file is on your hard drive, you can use notepad or wordpad to open the file. SImply start notepad or wordpad and then open the file using File->Open. What you will see in it is PHP code (computer code).

PHP files are meant to be parsed on a server before being sent to a client machine.

To be able to view it as a web page, it has to be located on a computer with PHP installed. To view the code you can right click it and choose open with and open it in notepad.
