How did it happen?

It was over a year ago, but why or how still bothers me to this day. I was dating this girl "Lana" for about a month, I had been try to get a date out of her twice a year for about 5 years, when I finally let it be known that I have given up on girls in my school, she gave me a ring and asked me to be her boyfriend and foolishly I agreed. I respected this girl as a woman, and I loved her. Well, everything seemed fine(except my cell phone minutes from so much talking) I still remember getting a call from her friend saying that she was breaking up with me, I remember her friend sayin that she was sorry for the bad news, So was I. What happend that I didn't see, and why did she do me so much disrespect as not facing me like a true woman and tell me it was off? I am over it now, I poured my feelings into sports and became quite good. thanks

Update:

thanks for the answers I have recently recieved.

Women hate confrontation. She didn't want to face your pain.

Some people just weren't meant to be together. It sounds to me like it was an unequal relationship, you had respect and love for her but she put you off for several years.

Baby don't make yourself so available to women. You can treat us with respect but a woman loves a strong man. Don't ever chase a woman that hard. You deserve better, go out and make something good of your life. Good women will come to you!

she was scared to tell you. I used a note once, I'm not proud of it, but the guy kinda deserved it, but that is another story entirely, she was probably afraid of your reaction, If you got upset it would be her fault, If you didn't care, then she wasn't good enough to care for. at least this way she didn't have to see the reaction
