Miniature horses.?
Anyone out there had any experience owning/raising miniature horses? After the initial purchase cost are they very expensive to care for. I'm concerned about whether they can have specific physical problems that average size horses have or don't have. What are the pros and cons of owning them? Thanks.

What are your plans for thi sminature horse? A minature horse is just like a fullsize horse in just a small package. One thing that you must keep in mind is that need very little space and very little feed. These guys come obese quite quickly which will result into health issues. They are very easy to care for. The fences don't have to be tall, stalls are smaller, easier to care for.

I found that their upkeep is less expensive than that of an average-sized horse - everything is in smaller portions, such as dewormers and feed. You need to keep a very close eye on their weight as they get "plump" very easily and rarely require any grain if housed outside. In the spring especially keep an eye on their intake of grass - they can founder easily if they eat too much fresh grass. Otherwise they are very easy to maintain and a joy to have around!

Contact the "Flying V" ranch/farm near me.
Or google miniature horse and check out www.amha.com.
I find google to be an awesome resource for questions like this one.

Well, when buying them.. they are very expensive. Their up-keep is usually the same as a regulsr horse.. but the vet and medical bills are more expensive. Medical is more expensive because of how rare of a breed they are and how different of a horse they are. Sometimes generals equine/farm vets wont look at them, or they are difficult to find.
They are very very cute though!
