Unfortunately I don't see the relation between low paid workers (legal or illegal) and the cost of the products they make. Certain prices for products such as produce may be government regulated, but let's face it, the reason things cost more in certain places is because there are people who would pay that much to have it. The true reason for high costs falls back on the laws of supply and demand as well as the drive to make a huge profit.

Real estate in NY and CA are high because of the large population in relation to the available property. Hence the reason why a house that could be built for $200,000 can be sold for $750,000. As long as someone is willing to pay for it, it will sell for that or higher. The same goes with other products whether it's cars, clothes, shoes, etc.. Although most of us will say paying $50 for a nice short sleeve shirt is too much, others will say "as long as its polo or lacoste I'll pay even more."

In short low wages do not always equal lower costs, but it usually means higher profits. Let's get real. When manufacturers close plants in the US in order to open overseas plants with wages at a tenth of America's minimum wage, their products don't exactly get cheaper, but I bet their profits increased tenfold. Nike afterall still sells the most expensive shoes in the US while their sweatshop workers overseas get pittance.

Those states have higher cost of living not because of the illegal aliens, but because of their populations and real estate etc. Illegal aliens do make things cheaper, otherwise you won't be able to get strawberries for $2.50 a pint as well as other cheap fruits and veggies grown in California.

It's because of the busted up economy, and believe it or not, even the government regulates wages on illegal immigrants (meaning there IS a minimum wage, even for illegals). California is also the golden and richest state in the united states. Therefore business and competition in every field is harsh. Therefore cost of goods rise, and rises even more b/c of political people such as Ahhhhnoold shwashenayga, gas prices, etc.

Because for some stupid reason, people have always wanted to live in California....ITS called supply and demand....

Since you say California is so expensive, what about property values? Since California has such a high illegal population, why aren't property values down? Don't you say that illegals living in neighborhoods bring down property values? I guess California is the exception, right?

that argument they make is a myth. Illegals cost this country hundreds of millions every year, if not more. 70% of births in the dallas country hospitals are to illegals - who of course have no insurance.

It does NOT make things cost less.......You and I actually have to pay almost 2 times as much in health care and state tax to support them. It is only cheap for them, as they get health care for free...(we already paid for it, remember), they get food stamps..(we paid for that in our taxes) which they don't pay. California has more illegals, they need to pay more, because their state pays out more in benefits....

Somebody has to contribute to their welfare checks somehow. Seems to me, that if you are a migrant worker, you have more opportunity to collect a welfare check AND get food stamps, than if you are a US citizen!
