Why don't ppl cover thier mouths when sneezing or coughing, especially in public places?

Update:

oops typo hehe

Update 2:

who said anything about using ur hand. There are tissues that can be used. and I'm talking about blatantly coughing in the air as if they were laughing, not trying to conceal it in the least bit.

I don't know if they were taught any better. I teach my kids to cough or sneeze into the crook of their arms so they don't get cooties all over there hands and then touch things (I know it sounds childish, but I have 4 children and that is what I tell them). That is just as gross as doing it into the air and spreads germs just as fast.

No more surefire way to spread disease. We cover our mouths and noses and spray all those germs into our hands, which we then use to open doorknobs or wave in the air or shake hands or hug and so much more.

The idea of covering one's mouth or nose during sneezing is an old superstition that when you sneeze you are actually exorcizing a demon out of your body and you want to prevent him from taking over someone else, so you cover your mouth to impede him long enough for others to close their mouths.

Isn't that annoying? Actually, you shouldn't cover your mouth with your hand...you should cough and sneeze in the crook of your arm (the inside of your elbow). When you sneeze into your hand then go touch something (door handle, coffee pot handle, etc.) it defeats the purpose of covering your mouth. Whoever comes along behind you is going to touch whatever it is you just touched and spread the germs even faster.

That is a great question.......or close their mouth when chewing.......we were just coming home on a flight and right across the isle..a lillte girl...about 8...was coughing over and over...I'm sure she was sick...but her parents were right there...oblivious to her....every once in a while one would ask if she was ok...but never told her to cover her mouth....now Planes of all places....where people are packed in like sardines.....for god sake...she could have caught something while on vacation..and we were returning from another country.......But those same people who dont use common courtesy...are the first ones to blame someone else if they catch something.

Because they're clueless of having any sense of decorum. They're the same people who answer their cell phones in a theater, stand too close to you in the grocery store, and insist on allowing their kids free reign of a restaurant.

They are illmannered people who are not thinking of anyone else except themselves. selfishness and illmanners are becoming pretty ordinary these days. I wish it were not so.
