Can someone please tell me if thyroid condition can make my skin look older?
I have been on Tapazole for about 3 years and ever since I started taking it, my skin is looking so much more wrinkled. I have tried to ask the doctor but he just doesn't want to take the time to listen. I need another doctor, but they are getting hard to find. I apprecaite any help. Also does drinking a lot of water really help with the skin?

it sounds like it may be the drug side effects.
FOR Tapazole:
The most common side effects are related to the skin and include rash, itching, hives, abnormal hair loss, and skin pigmentation.
Less common but serious side effects have occurred with Tapazole therapy. A decrease of white blood cells in the blood (agranulocytosis) may occur. Symptoms and signs of agranulocytosis include infectious lesions of the throat, the gastrointestinal tract and skin with an overall feeling of illness and fever. A decrease in blood platelets (thrombocytopenia) also may occur. Since platelets are important for the clotting of blood, thrombocytopenia may lead to problems with excessive bleeding..
you might be having aging looking skin because you are getting too much or too little of the drug.
Since you aren't getting much help from your MD., why not email or call the manufacturer of Tapazole at

and ask if there is anything you can do to reduce or prevent the skin related side effects?????????

I have an under-active thyroid and take "Synthroid"... have not had the skin issues with this medication however, one symptom of a thyroid disorder is dryness of the skin which can cause it to appear wrinkled. No amount of lotion or cream seems to help this but, yes, drinking LOTS of water (which I hate) does help! I would be more concerned that your doctor doesn't have "TIME" to listen to you!! I'm sure he's got time to play a round of golf and take a drive in his Mercedes that your money pays for!!! Find a new Dr... mine insists (in fact, will not refill my prescriptions) unless I come in every 3 months for a new CBC to check my thyroid. Good luck to you!

I do know that if the Thyroid becomes underactive it can affect the skin and make it look tired and wrinkled. Ask your Doctor for another evaluation on your Thyroid function
