Talk to them. That's really the best way to tell. Play it cool, don't freak out. As for the haters... don't pay any attention to them. As long as you're happy the way you are then it shouldn't matter what they think.

The more you socialize the more comfortable you will become. Just relax and know everyone is in the exact same position or has been at some point or another. You'll be fine.
