Try wrapping toys in gift wrap and ribbon. Give him one or 2, then bribe him with the rest.
Learn and sing softly preschool songs with hand motions. Itsy bitsy spider, etc.
For some reason Tic Tacs worked wonders for my brother at that age. He was an odd child, but my mother had him convinced they were "sit still pills". She would give him one and he would be still for a little while anyway. They are small enough not to choke him and harmless.
Can you plan the flight so that he sleeps through most of it?
Ask a doctor if there is something you can give him.
For you, try Dramamine. It is an over the counter motion sickness tablet that has a mild sedative effect for some people. It might be safe for your boy too.

ask your doctor if there is something he can prescribe.
second for your trip, i have flown from frankfort to the usa and back several times with a small child over the years. what i did was pack a special carry on bag for him.we put all kinds of little things in it that he liked. he had a bioncle game (leggo type game) small container, was easy to fit into bag. he had a electronic device called video now, which he would watch some of his favorite shows on, (its very inexpensive-less than 30 bucks, and the little movies are just a few bucks each). he also had a game boy with lots of games. we put little snacks in it, and some juice boxes. he had his favorite pillow, and some gum incase his ears hurt. we also had some pencils, and some little activity books that were age appropriate. by preparing for these trips, my son became the professional flyer, and i never had any problems with him. i was the one that was bored!

Sleeping and sleeping. There's always talking to your neighbour - but risky - long flight, do you r-e-a-l-l-y want to know what Cousin Doreen's step-daughter's best friend did for her 4th Anniversary?? Just don't get out the nail varnish and do a nail makeover like someone did on a flight I was on long ago in more timid days.

nothing is safe to give a child, i dont know why you are travelling with this child if hes so much of a problem, but if you have to do it you just have to grit your teeth, you can ask your doctor about meds but i dont think anything is safe.
