Hooking up my tv to stereo, my tv only has a digital audio coax output...?

but my stereo only has the rca (red & white) input jacks. I know this is probably a stupid question, but is there any way to hook these together so I get my tv sound through my stereo? Thanks for the help guys.

There's no way to swap a digital (coax, optical) signal to an analog (standard stereo RCA) signal without the use of a digital-to-analog converter. But they are used (exclusively, I believe) in high-end CD playback and professional broadcast applications and are very costly.

The closest you'll come, and on the cheap, is

But that's ONLY if your reciever/preamp has Toslink (optical) inputs.

If your exsisting audio equipment is good enough to hold onto, you may consider picking up an inexpensive second reciver/preamp (with the needed digital inputs, of course) for Home Theater use only.

Are 100% certain that your TV has only a digital audio output?

Most TVs I am familiar with has also RCA output jacks in the back, not necessarily red and white plugs but that is the standard.

Try also looking in the front for some sort of connections. You might want to try and look at your TVs owner manual for all of your connections.

The only other suggestion I have is to replace your stereo so it would accept the digital coax connection.

The white output from the TV will need to be plugged into the stereo. The yellow one is the video. This should work fine.

I have never seen a TV with only digital audio out. Anyways, you would have to buy a converter to do what you are asking. They could cost you a few hundred dollars.

Your other option is to get a new inexpensive receiver that has digital inputs and your problem will be solved.
