How can u help a dog w/ mange?
My dog that I have had for many years has mange. AN uncureable kind I guess b/c we have tried many things. Her fur don't dissapear anymore but all her skin is really really dry and hard. She's on a medication from her vet but its not helping her skin. We have tried rubbing her in baby oil but it really don't help either. I really need some ideas b/c we are all really attached to her and some of my family jsut wants me to put her down but I just can't. please help
I've taken her to the vet which is how I have her mange med. I guess the dry skin isn't from mange I'm not sure but her med. isnt helping it.
She has been on this med for several months. It helped with the loss of fur but not her red dry skin. I don't think its from the mange. I have done all her vet has told me to do I just have to keep giving her this med. once a month forever but I just want to clear up the red dry thick skin .

Some skin conditions can take several weeks of medication before they clear up. Your vet may will probably check your dogs progress every 2 weeks or so to see how the meds are working, and change them if they are not. Follow your vets instructions exactly, and if you think she isn't getting better, go to another vet for a second opinion.

If you are able to obtain it where you are, Troy rascar medicated foam will help the dry thickened skin. Follow up with your vet but as others have mentioned, the meds can take a while to work. Also ask about an anti-inflammatory injection which will kick in after a few days and should last up to six weeks.

You have to wait for the medicine to work. It sounds like she is really infected so you need to wait. It will take time for the skin to heal. Skin can be so damaged by this that the fur never grows back.
Follow all of the vet's instructions and the instructions on the medicine. It's important to treat her correctly so that it will heal as best it can and so that it doesn't come back.
Good Luck

Some mange is incurable.
What type of mange did the Vet say it had?
What medication did the Vet give?
Follow instructions from Vet.

Do not rub your dog with Baby Oil! Go see your vet, it could be any number of things, but a common cause of dry, hard skin is thryoid disease and the only cure is to give a thyroid replacement hormone. Your vet may need to do bloodwork to diagnose this. If you do not want to do that, you would probably want to give your dog to someone who will.

well it depends on what mites it has. usually the vet gives an ivermectin short ( think im spelling that right) some ointments for the sopts where the mites have been biting the dog. and a check up for another shot, i know its really hard to treat that, but once u do be sure ur dog eats right and excercises since a low immune system makes them more susciptable to those mites

my rats used to have mites. They don't anymore. Organic neem spray might help. I got mine from a holistic animal store. They have shampoo and Neem dip also. I would bath the dog with the shampoo(neem) and then spray (don't get in eyes) everywhere the skin is irritated. Azmira neem spray will kill any mites on the skin and repels mosquitos and mites and lice. I used it on my skin because my rats used to have mites. I have been using it when I want to repel mosquitos also. It's better than regular stuff because it's not pesticide. Also it says on the bottle that it's good for skin irritation that's bite related and it helps to reduce allergy. Hope that helps. Good luck

one of the simpleest answers is ask the vet if they have any mite shampoo you can use and if they can keep the dog in over night. the shampoo is so that you can wash out your car and kill off the mites. and the dog staying overnight is so you can get him back in a clean car that hasnt got the mites from the previous day. i would also say that putting the shampoo stuff in the car as soon as you get it... over the place you were using to transport the dog ie boot and the seats infront of it as to be sure you have gotten all of the mites
