British Forces standard issue personal weapon.?

Who thinks that the (Crappy) SA80 A2 sould be replaced by the more reliable American M16.

I was quite lucky as I was my section Machine gunner but I have had experiance using the SA80 and my comrades were constantly complaining about their weapons.

Update:

D generation X... I am British you fool I was in the Royal Marines. And besides the M16 is the best standard issue weapon available to troops from around the world. On a recent survey conducted by The British Military 70% of troops say that they are infavour of a change of standard issue weapons.

the A2 is a good weapon if there is a bit of a build up of carbon on it but we are made to clean it so often if we where to change the standard weapon if would have to be the Canadian version on the M16

I'm a Canadian soldier, and we're issued a variant of the M-16. My currently issued weapon is the C7A2, and I actually think that British special forces are issued it as well.

Make no mistake, our A2 is a good weapon, with a full rifle-length barrel, a collapsible stock and a wide-angle optical sight. But there's only so many modifications you can make to a weapon before you need to design a new one. The new design is a too barrel-heavy in the minds of many soldiers, and the fact that we don't have a proper sling for it yet doesn't help either. But in true Canadian ingeniosity, we came up with our own modifications to our current slings and even created a few really clever contraptions to make carrying the weapon easier. Not to mention that some genius who wanted to make the weapon fully ambidextrous put a magazine release button on the left side of the weapon as well, one that isn't "protected" by other relief features around it. I've dropped more mags than I care to count that way, just carrying it around.

M-16 family weapons might look reliable, but they have this really nasty tendency to stop working unless they are kept extremely clean. In really dusty conditions like Afghanistan or anywhere in the Middle-East, in extreme cold and for naval use, they're not that great since the environment has a way to make things seize up. If I had my say in the matter, we'd go for a European design, maybe the G-36 or something from Sig Sauer. More reliable pieces of gear all right.

The A1 is pants, but the A2 upgrade was made by H&K, to conform to NATO standards, so it's now actually a good weapon. Very accurate and reliable.

That as before they re-develpoed it now and its better then the Crappy M-16 and we have better technology then you and we have got the best trained troops and the best tank(the Challenger series)the M-16 is a crap weapon its always jamming because you arent trained to fire just one shot you have to fire the whole 30 in 10 seconds you cowards.

Nah A2's doin alright at the moment like, but lol at the moments the key word here.

Armalites are the way ahead, i especially like the 'light' part and the fact that the gas parts are about 100x better.

The minimis are pritty cool like id definatly no like to be on the other end of that just like a mini gimpy.
