What does it mean when an In Voting Question says "(Tiebreaker)"?

Just wondering, because a lot of the questions I voted on now say (Tiebreaker) -- who's breaks the tie? Yahoo staff? Leprechauns? George W.? Charo? Scott Baio? I wanna know!

Update:

To clarify, folks, I CAN'T break the tie if I've already voted.

Update 2:

AMEN! Get out there and VOTE people!

It either means that no one voted for it (so it's tied at 0 votes each) or among the current people that voted it's tied.

ANYONE can break a tiebreaker...in fact, it will stay in tiebreaker mode until somebody votes & breaks the tie. When a question is in tiebreaker mode, it is scanned every 12 hours to see if someone broke the tie.

I wish more people would would vote for tiebreakers. A question can go into tiebreaker mode once it's been in the voting stage for over 2 days. It can remain in there indefinitely. In fact, I have seen many questions that have been in tiebreaker mode for 6 months.

If you want to break more tiebreakers, go to your favorite category, select "vote" and then sort by date. If you do the oldest questions first, you'll get all the tiebreakers.

The question stays in tiebreaker until someone else finally votes to break the tie. There are so many questions stuck in tiebreaker status! It's a real problem. More people need to vote.

Apparently no one breaks the tie. I have a couple of questions I answered that have been in a tiebreaker for months. I guess you just have to wait until someone comes along and votes and breaks the tie. It could stay that way forever!

I don't know but I vote for Scott Baio, he has nothing better to do, then spend time on yahoo answers and break ties.

I think they might let people try to pick the best answer for a while until a winner is decided.

It means you decide which way it goes. For example, half the class votes their favorite color is blue and the other half votes purple. You have to decide whether your favorite color is blue or purple to "break the tie."
