manifold problem with my mk III golf?
anyone know how much this is goin to cost to fix? i have a 1993, 5dr golf hatchback, took it to the garage this morn, the guy there said its definately the manifold, said its possibly coming from the exhaust or that there s a crack in in it, but he s gonna have to take the manifold cover off to have a look. One slight problem with this - the bolts are so old that they may snap, said this could be a big job :(.

Take it to another garage the manifold on this car is easy to see, either its coming from the exhaust or manifold is not good enough. They dont have bolts they have studs a little care and they should not snap.Regards Mick

Take it to VW dealer - they can find the problem more precisely and if those nuts and bolt handled with care, it won't be a problem (I worked for VW). That cover can be removed quite easily.

It's not a big job just to check it out and take off the cover. Make sure who your dealing with is reputable...
