Is anyone else boycotting BP stations?

The oil companies are doing everything possible to hike prices. The government should make them hold the prices and BP should make up the loss from other wells in the north Atlantic etc. Our politicians have sold us out for too long and need to be thrown out. Both republicans and democrats have forgotten what they are supposed to do and concentrate on getting rich while in office.

I don't think BP really will be affected by it. Sorry. People these days are dependent on gas, and all that. Prices going up? Oh well! Suck it up & pay for it! That is what most Americans do. We don't stand up for ourselves anymore. We're like puppets! Lazy, ignorant, puppets!

Lucky for me I just got a new ride... a bicycle! You won't see me fretting over gas! ;o)

Although I should be doing my work or sleeping, I couldn't resist answering your question before I go.

I know you think BP did this to bump up the price of oil, but if you do your research, you'll see that doesn't make sense for them. Although higher prices sounds good in the short term, BP is already under scrutiny for the deaths of 15 people (along with 170 injuries) in Texas City. This kind of bad press creates bad will towards BP, and your question is an indirect proof of that.

BP was screwed either way. But the path they chose was the best for all parties. We don't want oil leaking out of pipelines in Alaska, obviously that would be very bad for the environment. Sure they could have covered it up, but eventually it would have been found out, and they would have been all over the press. So they tried to minimize the damage to their image to prevent further bad will in the future.

Lately BP has been upgrading safety standards on its equipment to the tune of $7 billion dollars. They do realize that people like you are watching what they do, and if you don't like what you see, you will stop using their products.

As is, I see BP as a very large company that has made mistakes, but is trying to fix them, and is not trying to take short cuts to do it. I admire that choice, even though in the short term, oil and gas is getting pricier. What price can you put on a clean environment for ourselves and 'our' children?

BP has discovered severe corrosion, with losses of 70 to 81 percent in the 3/8-inch of the wall thickness of the pipe. What BP needs to do is to upgrade the 22 miles of lines with stronger tensile strength molybdenum steel (higher %age moly needed in makeup of the steel to prevent further breaks in the line). Molybdenum (moly for short) is used in pipelines to ensure in freezing and thawing conditions that the pipelines are resistant to cracks and damage. No more cutting corners on safety and in the long run companies will make more money, oil will come out of the ground more securely (keeping the price lower than it would be with spills), and keeping our enviroment clean for ourselves and future generations.

As always it's war time in the middleeast .If the prices go up anymore then 3.40 a gallon i'll be forced to ride my bike.Just stop buying gas in general and ride a bike,walk,or buy a toyota hybrid.In fact starting tommorrow, i'll be riding the bike to work.

So, the oil leak from one of the thin spots in the very old pipeline is what, a mass hallucination??

I don't think they would shut it down, & make no money, just to push up the price for other oil companies!

Nope. I've given up on caring about the cost of gas. Plus, my drive to work is less than a mile, so I rarely fill up. I'll boycott it when it's over $5 a gallon.

I've quit using BP a few years ago. Their gas isn't good for your car and it burns way to quickly.

Why does a company called "British" Petroleum even have stuff going on in Alaska anyways? Shouldn't it be called "AG", "American Gas" or "Alaskan Gas".

I already don't buy from them since they bought out Amoco Standard. It pisses me off to see old names like that disappear. Also, don't buy from mobil, they are evil.
