What is wasabi made out of?

I love wasabi with my sushi, but have no idea what it's made out of. Do you know what wasabi is made out of? What makes it so hot?

♡It's simple really, REAL wasabi is made from the Japanese wasabi root.

I live in Japan and we can buy it in root form here sometimes. It's easy to make! It only takes a minute. For fresh wasabi, the root is grated on a small grater - producing a paste. That's it:

It's much easier and less expensive to buy the ready made tube.

    Hope this helps!♡

Most wasabi you get in sushi places is just horseradish dyed green. REAL wasabi is a totally different thing and much better.

wasabi is made from the wasabi plant root. it is a green root that resembles a carrot. to make wasabi you just ground it down. but most wasabi in the u.s. is horseradish ground and died green because real wasabi is really expensive. but the flavor of real wasabi is really different from what your used to it's hot but the best way i can describe it is it has a much cleaner taste and is not as sharp and horseradish

I think wasabi is made out of wasabi. It's a root similar to horseradish, so I don't think a lot goes into it, it just is what it is.

Wasabi is made from the horseradish root and I believe is not mixed or diluted with much of anything else which makes it hot and great and clears your sinuses at the same time. I have ground horseradish root and it is so hot you have to leave the kitchen. I made it in a food processer and added a little white vinegar to keep it creamy style plus a little salt. HOT HOT HOT!!!

the real wasabi is only grown in japan so most of the wasabi you eat in the us isn't real wasabi. but everyone else is right when they told you it is a japanse horseradish.

Wasabi is Japanese horseradish. Ever had regular horseradish with prime rib? Tasty, but the stuff that isn't mixed with sour cream can make your eyes water...

Its made out of lava from a green volcano.

No its really a root similar to horseradish.

    Its a kind of horseradish.

Generally what you're getting is regular horseradish, unless you go to really high-end japanese restaurants, then you get the real thing.
