Use a calculator, get the square footage of the walls/ceilings to be painted, then compare that to the coverage number on the paint to be used. Get the appropriate number of gallons.
Typically the more expensive the paint, the fewer coats needed. More particulate and pigment and less water equals better paint. The cheaper paints are usually 50% or more water by volume while the more expensive are 35% or less.

the 12 x10...I'd say 1 can of paint...but it depends on the quality of paint...and how many coats you use....if it need 2 coats...of course it will take more paint. You usually paint with only one coat...if it's really good paint (like Scherwin-Williams)...it also depends on the color of the room you are painting....if it's a dark color...you definately will need more coats of paint...

It would depend on how many coats you want/need. I would suggest asking the local hardware store paint associate, and they can help you decide which and how much paint is the best for your needs. GL

6-8 gallons for one coat...good luck
ps- if you use sherwin williams paint, i guarantee you'll use less and get better coverage and splatter- if your needing to prime, get a primer in the same color as the finish- if your not priming(if the paint on the wall is in good shape) simply sand the walls, wipe them, and paint
