Vidya Balan (* January 1 1982) is an Indian actress based in Mumbai, India.

Early life

A Tamil Iyer from the town of Palakkad (Palghat) in Kerala, Vidya Balan grew up in Mumbai, attending the St. Xavier's College and later the Mumbai University. She graduated from college with a Sociology degree. She speaks several languages including Tamil, English, Hindi, Malayalam, and Bengali.

Career

Vidya Balan started work as an actress in the Malayalam movie Chakram, paired against Mohanlal, however the film was abandoned mid-way through production. After making her debut in television advertising as a model for a Surf Excel advertisement in 1998, she proceeded to do over 25 TV ads, (mostly directed by Pradeep Sarkar), followed with a variety of acting stints in music videos (Euphoria, Shubha Mudgal and Pankaj Udhas), Hindi TV soap operas (Hanste Khelte and Hum Paanch) and a Bengali movie, Bhaalo Theko, for which she won the Best Actress Anand Lok Puraskar award in Kolkata.

In 2005, Balan debuted in her first feature film Parineeta, a Vidhu Vinod Chopra production in Hindi, directed by Pradeep Sarkar. The film met with widespread critical and commercial acclaim.

i think vidya balan is a really talented actror in 2000, kajol is a some what old actor she was an trimendous actor those day's and now in fanha also, i think really vidya balan is a junior kajol for new millenium generation

vidya is gud but u cant compare her to kajol and rani they have ruled the box office and our hearts for along time and ash has had only multistarrer hits unlike vidya who worked hard for hereself and i must say has done grt but so soon we cant compare her with the best ,ie rani and kajol.. may be aftre some more movies

as far as acting is concerned, rani n kajol rule.. vidya would have to prove herself to match them but i think she does have the potential.. as far as beauty goes, ash is the most beautiful woman in the world, as said by everyone.. but one thing thats so amazing bout vidya's beauty is the timeless grace n elegance that she possesses.. i dont think u have dat in ash...
