How quick are you all to open up sites that are?

attached to these Yahoo questions? I'm possibly paranoid but I won't do it until I see a LOT of answers from people I trust on here to open anything. I've been on here long enough to know I can click on an Avatar - know the persons questions/answers and realize they're not an idiot (well, everyone asks stupid stuff sometimes - that's okay). Yet, some stupid questions doesn't make one a criminal. You get my point though. Do you open every link you see in these questions? Have you ever opened one on Yahoo QA that screwed up your computer because it had a virus? I am way too nervous to do it. What is your view - do you think I'm being WAY paranoid or not?

You are not paranoid at all. I am perhaps more paranoid about going to a bad site.

However, I have a ton of protection here.

22000 "bad" sites are in my Restricted Zone, using a using a block list called IE-SPYAD.

Another 12000 bad-boys are totally blocked using MVP Hosts File.

I use SiteAdvisor...a great free tool that gives a "green", "red", or "yellow" rating to most of the websites on the web.

Also, I use SiteHound...it is similar to SiteAdvisor.

And I have my security setting set to NOT allow unsigned downloads of Active-X, and to prompt me for any downloads of signed Active-X.

In short, there is nothing wrong with being a bit paranoid when surfing the web. Prevention is always easier then trying to cure the problem , after the fact.

I usually just stick to the better known links (wikipedia, amazon.com .. etc.) and usually won't click on anything that seems suspicious.

If you're that nervous about it, you probably need a firewall (Zone Alarm is a good one) and a good virus program that offers real-time protection and that is NOT McAffee (one of the *worst* programs out there)

Unfortunately no, I don't think you are paranoid. I tend be a little trigger happy when clicking links, and I shouldn't be. I have never had a problem though, thank goodness.

I don't worry about it because I have the proper antivirus protection and firewall protection. If you don't have the best protection, you shouldn't be on line at all until you do get the proper protection, and I don't mean that free stuff you download.
