Have you got any Book Club suggestions?

If you are in a book club and have discussed any really good books let me know. I'm always looking.

To make it a little easier, we've already read:

Life of Pi (great discussion)

The Red Tent (ho hum)

To Kill a Mockingbird (very good)

Bel Canto (wonderful)

Shadow of the Wind (excellent)

The Three Junes (blah)

Reading Lolita in Tehran (a little too self-absorbed)

The Glass Castle (ok)

Wicked (terrific)

Expecting Adam (way too self-absorbed)

The Master Butchers Singing Club (good discussion)

The Known World (good discussion)

    Favorite Answer

Rocket Boys by Homer Hickam (at first our book club wasn't sure if they would like it and it ended up being a "favorite of all time" read) Note this book was made into the movie October Sky

The Color of Water (A Black Man's Tribute to His White Mother) by James McBride (another favorite of our club--an amazing book)

Mutant Message Down Under by Marlo Morgan (Small book very controversial fantastic discussion)

The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd (a huge best seller and just phenomenal--a great read.)

I just read "Lost Horizon" by James Hilton. It was the first paperback in print but is pretty readily available. I loved the Life of Pi. Lost Horizon is interesting and has some good discussion possibilities on religion, men and women's interactions etc. It is about a group that are kidnapped on a hijacked plane and taken to Shagri La. Also the Caine Mutiny and maybe it even The DaVinci Code since it is so popular right now and would be good for discussion.

If you want to give fantasy a try - read King Fortis the Brave. It's about a pair of twins that are pulled into a magical world and get caught up in a battle for control of the land. It's full of humor and adventure and one of my favorite books.

A Tree Grows In Brooklyn is one of my absolute favorite books. Read Angela's Ashes after and compare to completly different stories about coming of age in an irish family. One in Ireland and one that has immigrated to the US,

I'm in a book club, but mostly they read works by Christian authors, such as C.S.Lewis and Richard Warren.

I'd rather expand to thoughtful works by secular authors.

In the off chance that you're near Northwest Ohio.....please drop me a line at
