depends on the usage. example "turning point in my life...." would be a moment that caused you to realize something that was always right in front of you, only you weren't able to grasp it. such as drinking. A drunk always has the facts right in front of his/her face (ruining their lives and what not) but they don't accept them, a turning point would be, something that would snap them out of it.
